Day 2 - 28 June 2008

Redcliffe – Morgan’s Seafood
Redcliffe is a picturesque seaside city and home to approximately 50,000 people. Nestled on the edge of beautiful Moreton Bay, the Redcliffe peninsula is just 35 minutes north of Queensland’s capital city, Brisbane.
Redcliffe was the site of Queensland's first European settlement in 1824. From these historic beginnings, Redcliffe has grown into a thriving coastal centre.
Safe, sandy beaches and scenic parks span Redcliffe's 22km of glorious coastline, which is also dotted with the rocky red headlands that give the city its name. Redcliffe's stunning views of Moreton Bay, Hays Inlet and the Glasshouse Mountains are also something to be savoured.
Numerous leisure activities can be enjoyed on the peninsula, making Redcliffe one of south-east Queensland’s most scenic recreational playgrounds.

University of Queensland
The University of Queensland (UQ) is one of Australia's premier learning and research institutions. The University is a founding member of the national Group of Eight, an alliance of research-strong, mostly "Sandstone universities" committed to ensuring that Australia has higher education institutions which are genuinely world class. It belongs also to the global Universitas 21 alliance. This group aims to enhance the quality of university outcomes through international benchmarking and a joint venture e-learning project with The Thomson Corporation.

UQ is Queensland's foremost university. In 1998-99 it was named Australia's University of the Year and it continues to enjoy the highest overall rating for Queensland universities in the annual Good Universities Guide.

UQ remains the most successful Australian university in winning and being shortlisted for Australian Awards for University Teaching since they were established in 1997. On a variety of measures it is one of the top three or four research universities in the country.

UQ's strength in research is evident in the many joint and collaborative research centres associated with the university. The Queensland Bioscience Precinct on the St Lucia campus houses scientists from the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and the Institute for Molecular Biosciences to form one of the largest biomedical research clusters in Australia.[4] In addition, UQ is involved in biomedical translational research at the Diamantina Institute of Cancer and Metabolic Medicine (DI) and the University of Queensland Centre of Clinical Research (UQCCR).

Southbank
Brisbane’s South Bank Parklands feature 17 hectares of lush gardens and lawns, the Clem Jones Promenade next to the Brisbane River and the magnificent Arbour. The open, public spaces are accessible 24 hours a day, every day of the year. It is the place where the residents of our city come together to celebrate family functions as well as national events such as Australia Day. Visitors to Brisbane are attracted to South Bank for its relaxed atmosphere and opportunity to swim, walk, ride, eat or see a show.

There are several barbecues across The Parklands. All of the barbecues are free to use but they cannot be booked in advance for functions.
*Please note that we are currently in the process of upgrading all barbeques to a new electric system. In the mean time this might mean fewer operational barbeques available in the Parklands.

There are restrictions on the consumption of alcohol in certain areas of South Bank parklands.

You are welcome to throw a frisbee or ball or you could hire bocce (boule) sets from the Visitor Information Centre for a game on the lawn. Riding of bikes and skateboards is limited to certain areas. The kids will love the three playgrounds to slide and swing and climb on.

Dogs are welcome at South Bank.

South Bank has been awarded the best public sector development in the world by the International Real Estate Federation and the world’s best downtown public space by the International Downtown Association. More information on these awards and other awards received by the South Bank Parklands is available from South Bank Corporation.

Mount Coot-tha
The breathtaking panorama of Brisbane City and it's surrounds greets you as you step onto the observation deck. By day, you can see the sun shining over Brisbane, out to Moreton Bay and by night, a fairyland of glittering lights and starlit sky surrounds you. Interpretive facilities, a wishing waterfall and beautifully manicured gardens further enhance the complex and blend harmoniously with the surrounding native bushland.
